Mike Vallely's Street Plant Celebrate 'Brooklyn Banks Week'

With the future of iconic skateboarding spot 'The Brooklyn Banks' still in doubt due to ongoing construction in New York City, Mike Vallely and his company Street Plant have been posting nostalgic updates on Instagram using the hashtag #brooklynbanksweek.

Some of the clips consist of awesome vintage unseen footage, an interview with Mike V's close friend Rodney Smith, Mike himself talking about the day he ollied the fence at the upper banks and most recently, Mike's last trip to the banks in 2017.

In the most recent post Street Plant state that 'In 2017, when Mike heard The Banks were somewhat Skateable again (via a hole in a fence), he got on a plane and connected with @streetplantbattalion Members @doctorzeuss, @robertcserafin, and #StreetPlantBattalion Artist @muellerstudios for a session. His first in seven years.

Since 2010, the Brooklyn Banks have been rendered nearly unskateable due to an ongoing construction project on the bridge above. Then, in early May of this year, the very bricks that make up this Iconic Skate Spot were removed by the New York City Department of Transportation. Skaters around the world have rallied to Save The Banks, and there is an online petition, search: Save The Brooklyn Banks to sign it.

To celebrate this Historic Skate Spot, and one that has been an integral part of Mike Vallely's life and Skate career, and thus a big part of Street Plant’s roots, we are posting videos and photos this week of Mike at The Banks throughout the years. These posts are visual annotations to Mike’s appearance on @skatefulnesspodcast today (10.07.2020) (Episode 23 - streaming now) where Mike shares memories and stories from his time Skating, “The best Skatepark in the world.”
