Killer Mike and El-P of Run The Jewels have returned with a teaser from the upcoming "Run The Jewels 4" album. The track also features Greg Nice and production from the legendary DJ Premier. It was Zane Lowe of Apple Music's "Beats 1 Radio" who exclusively premiered "Ooh LA LA" on his show last week.
The music video is directed by Brian & Vanessa Beletic and was shot just a few weeks before lockdown restrictions were enforced due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The video shows hundreds of people dancing in the streets amongst bundles of dollar bills at their feet whilst throwing away their bank cards and any remaining cash they have. RTJ state that "in conceptualizing the video with our friends Brian and Vanessa Beletic we imagined the world on the day that the age old struggle of class was finally over. This video is a fantasy of waking up on a day that there is no monetary system, no dividing line, no false construct to tell our fellow man that they are no less or more than anyone else."
With this idea of the video depicting the end of capitalism it is quite fitting that Rage Against the Machine's Zack De La Rocha also has a nice little cameo. Recruiting the skilful DJ Premier to handle the cuts seems to be a masterstroke and the track even uses a sample of Gang Starr’s Hard To Earn single “Dwyck” featuring Nice & Smooth. The release date for "RTJ4" is yet to be confirmed however if this is a hint at how the new album may sound, we may see some of their best work yet. Hip Hop's heavy hitters are back!
