He is a founding member of Hip Hop collective Pro Era alongside Joey Badass, and the late Capital Steez, and whilst he may not be at the forefront of the collective like his stablemate Joey, CJ Fly has quietly been making his mark in the industry.
In the early days CJ made a number of appearances on various Pro Era projects before releasing his debut mixtape ‘Thee Way I see it’ in October 2013. The mixtape seen production from the talented Chuck Strangers and renowned East Coast DJ/Producer Statik Selektah. In 2016 CJ released his first studio album ‘Flytrap’ to critical acclaim and album single ‘Now You Know’ also found its’ way onto hit television series Love & Hip Hop.
The 5th March 2020 will see CJ release his debut studio album, ‘Rudebwoy’ and it promises to not disappoint. Once again production will be handled by Statik Selektah with features from the likes of Joey Badass and Haile Supreme. Pre released songs include the album titled ‘Rudebwoy’ featuring Joey, however the standout track of those released so far is undoubtedly ‘Show You.’ This track stirs up nostalgia, oozing that old school 90’s sound, making it somewhat feel like a breath of fresh air to Hip Hop all these years later. As soon as you hear the "Statik Selektah" intro tag you can guarantee the beat is going to be another magically produced gem!
The video (directed by David Janoff) involves storytelling at its’ finest and offers a close look at CJ’s upbringing with his mother and father both appearing as he rhymes his way through his childhood. The track sees CJ flow from verse to verse as he takes us on a tour, travelling through his usual hang outs showing some awesome rooftop views of Brooklyn and city surroundings.
With the soothing jazz infused beat, CJ takes a trip down memory lane travelling all over New York stating “ Never been to Brooklyn, you're in luck, I'll be your guide,” all delivered with a unique, smooth and fast paced flow. CJ is clearly in his element, full of smiles and constantly radiating character in another refreshingly dope Pro Era music video.
Hip Hop fans will unquestionably also be luck when the album ‘Rudebhoy’ drops on March 5th.
CJ Fly has arrived.
