Zeles have been close friends with Bobby Lidds since we were 'knee high' and so it is no surprise that we trust his taste in music. Back in the day we were subjected to sounds coming from him DJing in his room in the early mornings. The records acted as a welcoming wake up alarm and his choice of records was always second to none.
In his first music mix choice for June he has chosen a mix from Australian electronic music group 'The Avalanches.'
Bobby Lidds explains, "The story behind the mix is that in an effort to stop the production of bootlegged copies of an unfinished version of 'Since I Left You', the Avalanches started selling a cassette tape titled "Contains Elements of Since I Left You" at their shows around the year 2000. Some years later, the Avalanches' Australian label, Modular, distributed the recording as a promotion only product and named it 'Gimix.'
The 'Gimix' DJ mixtape is 46 minutes in length and is a combo of classic pop, disco, hip hop and heart warming grooves and features artists such as De La Soul, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Kid Creole, Jimi Hendrix, Cyndi Lauper, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Michael Jackson.
The internet now has plenty of wonderful archives for classic online music mixes dating back as far as the 80's. If you dig deep enough you will no doubt unearth little gems like this.
Enjoy"
